HISTORY

The Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Hyderabad (CFSL, Hyderabad) was established in 1967 under the Intelligence Bureau and was brought under the administrative control of Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D) in 1973 along with Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Kolkata. The Laboratory was initially situated in a small rental building at Chirag Ali Lane, Hyderabad.


The Laboratory in the beginning started functioning from the Chirag Ali Lane in the Abids area of Hyderabad city. The Laboratory shifted to its present spacious premises of 27 Acres in Ramanthapur in year 1982 which is in the vicinity of the Osmania University institutional area. Since 2002, the laboratory is under the direct control of the Directorate of Forensic Science Services, WS Division, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India as a Scientific Department to provide scientific support and services to the investigating agencies in the examination of crime. Dr. S. N. Garg was the first Director of the CFSL Hyderabad and the present Director is Sh. Sujay Saha
